This is so true. what an old friend once told me is “pain is pain. it doesnt matter what experience caused that pain, you still understand the feeling.” when you’re helping out a friend, you dont have to have gone through the same exact situation. You’ve experienced loneliness, sadness, pain, anger, jealousy, etc. You can use those experiences to sympathize and even empathize. good friends who you can go to when you’re troubled will take the time to listen and feel what you feel before helping you out. getting back to the quote, someone who is giving you those “simple and quiet words that sometimes do you good” will put up a strong face when giving you advice, but in reality, he can give you such words because he has gone through such troubles himself.
